Yes, I fall into the "hate" side of this particular marmite camp, however he is a good sport and handled my heckling well. He gets Kudos for that.
"Chips and drinks" is possibly one of the finest lyrics ever written. I look forward to future mentions of "doner kebabs" and "7up"...

The single isn't quite up to the standard of 'fit but you know it' or 'dry you eyes', but you can't blame him for not writing about the everyman anymore, cos he'd be lying! He's writing what he knows, and doing it pretty well! Who else is gonna talk about doing coke with a celebrity and then seeing her on cd:uk?

And I didnt say it was bad of him to have changed his topics. Just that it took away some of what was endearing about the songs.

fair comment, i dare say alex turner will eventually end up writing about stuff like that. The streets album is apparently really personal anyway, looks like he's turned from writing of experiences that relate to everyone to more intimate stuff like cocaine and drink problems and his dad dying. Could be risky, but I'm glad he's taking a risk, i reckon he can pull it off.

I really don't think Skinner ever thought of his music as endearing ... If he has lost his 'mate in the pub charm' then its because he's obviously got other things on his mind that he wants to share with the world . The sleeping with a pop star thing is just a gimmick and he uses it well , i don't see 50 cent doing stuff like that . Skinner's had a tough year from what i can make of things and kudos to him for making an album which doesn't purport to be anything other than what it is , tales from his life, which is infact almost a complete u-turn on his marvellous 2nd disc . j

The second album was rooted in reality though, so it's not exactly a u-turn, and I still stand by what I said. A lot of people said the Streets were so good because the man in the street could relate to what he was singing. That element of his music has gone now and I said that was slightly detrimental to what was so good about it all in the first place. The songs are still just as good, there's just a little something missing now...

where there is 'something missing' now as you say , i think its been replaced by something else , honesty and perhaps self pity ? infact i think i'm referring to album tracks (which are top notch by the way) . fair point though mr barker , he may lose some of his 'mates down the pub' fanbase , but i think pure music fans will embrace this new releases wholeheartedly ... j

Never Went To Church is Dry Your Eyes crossed with Let It Be. How bizarre.
